Syrups

Syrups are a saturated solution of 85% of sugar with water or other aqueous liquid. They are used as a substitute of capsules or tablets for those who are not allowed to have solid medicines. Most of the companies use flavored drugs in the formation of syrups to make them more palatable and on the other hand effective as well. They can be made either from extractive drugs or chemicals depending upon the use. Syrups such as cough curative are formulated by keeping 60-75% concentration of sucrose, glucose, maltodextrin, etc.

Key Points:

  • They are an oral liquid dosage form of a medicine.
  • Should be placed in cool and dry place, tightly packed.
  • Suitable for any age group.
  • Formulated very carefully since it requires full control of concentration level and quality.
